Race report for Youth and Mini Round 4

Constant rain wasn’t the ideal start but with half an hour to spare before the tapes went up the rain stopped and riders rolled out onto the line. The wet track proved to have more grip than expected and riders fears soon evaporated as they hit turn one in the heat races.

The Junior class saw George Hopper take the holeshot from Leon Collier in each heat with a solid display of racing. The fight was further down the order with Steph Tovey battling with her brother, Thomas, and Lewis Towle for the remaining positions. The final followed the same format with George hitting the front early hotly pursued by Leon Collier. Again the battle for the remaining three places went on throughout the whole race with Stephanie Tovey losing out to her brother coming into turn 3 on the last lap.

Jordan Lee Miller started the youth class heats well with a win off heat one but Ben Neave took control from then on winning the next two by a small margin from Skye Adams. Jordan failed to sustain his early form after a crash, falling to fifth in the remaining two heats, whilst Jacob and Bailey Fellows battled over the remaining two places. There was no stopping Ben Neave as the track continued to dry out and he made good use of the blue groove leading from tapes to flag, despite being pushed all the way by Skye Adams.

The minibike class looked to have a record entry but two pre-race bike issues and a car accident for one rider before the day started reduced the grid to 6 riders. Darren Trapmore and Rob Neave continued to show the form that has put them first and second in the Championship as they took off at the front of the field. The third place fight was more competitive with Adam Waller battling with Simon Ellis in most heats. New rider Michael Smith made a good effort on a damp track and got quicker through the heats but was still someway from challenging his brother Craig Smith for 5th. When the tapes went up for the final the leading three in the championship hit the blue groove and never looked back. Rob Neave levelled with Darren in turn 4 on the last lap but the run to the line went to Darren by half a bike length, with Adam Waller coming home a slightly distant third.
