Round 5 9th Aug

DTRA National Dirttrack Championships Round 5

The 1/2 Mile at AVTC

Round five of the national championships took place on the beautiful ½ mile horse track at Amman Valley Trotting Club.  Weeks of dry weather meant the water truck was very active before the event but sharp and heavy downpours during practice and racing soon put pay to any dust problems. With current series leader Aiden Collins away at Marianske Lazne competing in the FIM championships, the door was open for the other front runners to show their skills on this super fast track.

With a reduced field in the pro class the result was to be decided over three heats and a double points final. It was Tom Neave who dominated the pro final but it was his brother Tim who took the overall meeting win due to a fall Tom had in heat one. The final results in the pro class were as follows-

1st place Tim Neave

2nd place Tom Neave

3rd place Oliver Brindley

The thunderbike class was dominated by local rider Guto Llewelyn.  He took a clear win in the final ahead of Geoff Cain and Guy Sutherland. Series leader Dave Chadburn finished in 5th place.

The restricted class was packed with really close racing. Each heat produced a different winner. In the final it was series leader Les Wood who took the podium ahead of Justin Heavens and Tom Clements. In the rookie class French rider Christophe De Combard continued his dominance of the field with another good win ahead of Rick Bearcroft and Phil Gerrard. Youth riders Skye Adams and Jordon Lee Miller battled all day in the youth inters class but it was Jordon who got the better of Skye in the end. Leon Collier took the win in the junior class.

The vintage class was again dominated by two riders, Frank Chatokine and Guy Sutherland. Guy put Frank under pressure all day but it was Frank who managed to remain unbeaten in the 2014 series. It was a full Triumph podium with Nick Ashley taking the 3rd spot.

The final Round of the championship is set for Rye House Speedway on Sunday 21st Sept. With most of the class wins still to be decided it is set to be a great series finale.

Special Thanks for a great weekend to the staff at Amman Valley Trotting Club
